Our Club
Kildangan GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Kildangan, County Kildare, with Gaelic football at the core of its activity. The club caters for players of all ages, from Under 6 level through to adult football, and plays an important role in the sporting and social life of the local community.
The club is committed to being open, inclusive, and welcoming, providing opportunities for players, volunteers, and supporters to be involved regardless of background, experience, or ability.
Club History
Gaelic football has deep roots in the Kildangan area. Records show that Riverstown Charles J Kickhams affiliated with the GAA in 1888, with officers attending the 1889 GAA Convention, reflecting the area’s long-standing involvement in Gaelic games.
A standalone Kildangan football team was formed in 1913, playing its first recorded match against Booleigh on 4 October 1913. That early team disbanded in 1915, and for a period the area did not field a permanent club team.
Kildangan GAA was reformed in 1925, quickly establishing itself in county competitions. The club reached the 1925 Junior League Final and won its first major honour with a Junior League title in 1930, continuing to compete through the following decades.
After periods of reduced activity in the mid-twentieth century, the club was re-established again in 2001, marking the beginning of the modern era of Kildangan GAA. This reformation focused on rebuilding playing numbers, strengthening underage structures, and ensuring long-term sustainability.
In 2026, Kildangan GAA proudly marks 25 years since the 2001 reformation, celebrating a quarter-century of renewed activity and development.
Underage Development
Underage football is the foundation of Kildangan GAA. The club provides teams and coaching at every age group from Under 6 upwards, introducing children to Gaelic games in a positive, inclusive, and age-appropriate environment.
Through nursery programmes, regular coaching, blitzes, and league participation, the focus is on enjoyment, skill development, teamwork, and long-term participation. The strength of the underage section reflects the commitment of coaches, parents, and volunteers.
At older juvenile levels, the club works in partnership with Ballykelly under the Abbey Rangers banner, fielding teams at Under 14, Under 16, and Minor (Under 18) level. Abbey Rangers jerseys reflect the colours of both partner clubs and form part of the shared player pathway.
Adult Teams
Kildangan GAA fields a Senior football team competing in county competitions and representing the Kildangan community and surrounding area. The current adult panel is made up largely of players who have progressed through the club’s underage system since the reformation in 2001, reflecting continuity between underage and adult football and a strong sense of local representation.
Club Colours
Kildangan teams wear green with a yellow hoop.
Facilities
Kildangan GAA is based at More O’Ferrall Park, which serves as the club’s home ground for matches, training, and club activity. The facilities support players, mentors, volunteers, and supporters throughout the year and include a walking track used by members of the wider community.
Volunteers, Inclusion, and Getting Involved
Kildangan GAA is a volunteer-led club, with people involved across coaching, team management, administration, fundraising, facilities, and match-day support. New people are always welcome, whether as players, helpers, or behind-the-scenes volunteers.
No prior GAA experience is necessary. Guidance and support are provided, and there are many ways to get involved at a level that suits individual availability and interest.
Supporting the Club
Supporting Kildangan GAA takes many forms, all of which are equally valued. Club membership, the Lotto, and the 200 Club are central to funding the day-to-day running of the club, team support, coaching, and facility development.
Membership options are designed to be accessible and inclusive, including playing, family, and social or walking-track memberships. Alongside membership, participation in the Lotto and 200 Club provides vital ongoing support for the club’s future.
Looking Ahead
With a proud history, a strong underage structure, and an active volunteer base, Kildangan GAA continues to look to the future with confidence. As the club marks 25 years since its re-establishment in 2001, it remains committed to participation, development, and community connection through Gaelic football.
