Abbey Rangers Minors travelled to Rathcoffey on Sunday 18th February to take on St Edwards ( Rathcoffey and Straffan Amalgamation) in the second round of the league

An exceptionally solid defense gave our attack the platform and opportunity to show their capabilities and they took it. The sides traded points for the first 10 minutes before Eoin Sinnot continued his fine vein of form with a well taken goal. With Mikey Murphy & Luke Gill conducting matters from midfield and good supply coming also from the half back line Abbey Rangers confidently spread the ball around the forwards who produced some fine scores , with 25 mins gone we were five points ahead . A good goal started and finished by Ieuan Sweeney saw our lads well in command 2-7 to 0-5 at half time.

This was a good St Edwards side and the inevitable fight back came in the second half . Although they scored some very good points our strong defense, expertly marshalled by Jack O Rourke, gave them no goal opportunities bar a ( questionable?) penalty. This was against a a team who scored 5 of them last week!

Cometh the hour , cometh the man - Two clinical goals by Johnnie Grace quashed any chance of a sustained fight back and with corner forwards Nathan Broughall and Sam Rainbow also on song our lads ran out deserved winners on a scoreline that in no way flattered them.

Round 3 this Sunday 25th sees us take on Leixlip in Ballykelly with thrown in at 10.30.

Abbey Rangers: Jack O Rourke, Aaron Schofield, Eoin Sheedy, Calum Grattan. Johnny Grace ( 2-1), Paddy Neary, Rory Nea, Mikey Murphy (0-1) , Luke Gill, Sam Rainbow(,0-1) Ieuan Sweeney(1-1), Luke Mc Kenna, Sean Behan, Eoin Sinnot (1-3), Nathan Broughall (0-3)
