Kildangan seniors went out in More O’Ferrall Park on Monday evening for their first home game of the year. They played in front of a big crowd of home supporters who we thank very much for showing their support.
Straight from the start Kildangan hit with an Alan Donoher goal after an excellently delivered pass by Bryan Adams. However Athgarvan dominated the next 15 minutes with 5 points in a row. Leaving the score 0.05 to 1.00. A Sean Fitzgearld save stopped the game from running away from Kildangan and they bounced back just before half time. Excellently taken points from Rob Bocotan and Killian Scully saw Kildangan go into half time up by 2 points on a scoreline of 1.06 - 0.07. This scoreline was also helped along by some great defending by a player who’s performances often goes under the radar, Adam Balmer and also John Kelly who made his return to senior football after a stint away studying in Sligo.
Similar to the first half, the second half saw an Alan Donoher score, this time a point, then followed by 3 Athgarvan points. Leaving the game level half way through the second half. A couple of excellent saves from Sean Fitzgearld saw Kildangan holding the scoreline. Like many times before, Kildangan’s star player Mark O’Donovan produced the goods with a vital goal, Mark’s goal stretched Kildangan’s lead to 3 points, a lead that Kildangan held til the end of the game. 2 points by Killian Scully and points from Luke McKenna, Alan Donoher and Daniel Gilbert helped Kildangan see out a somewhat comfortable victory winning by 5 points. Eoghan O’Fearghaill and Daniel Gilbert both put in great shifts in midfield. Daniel’s defensive game was as sharp as ever, his fielding of the ball next to none and to top it off he had 3 points to his name. A special mention to Ieuan Sweeney who made his senior debut for Kildangan. Ieuan has come through our underage setup and is currently part of our Division 3 minor team. Well done Ieuan!
Man of the match: Daniel Gilbert
Moment of the Match: Seán Fitzgearld’s first half save whilst 2 points down was a massive turning point in the game.
