Abbey Rangers U16’s win against Aylmer Gaels despite being under pressure for the second half.
Abbey Rangers shot into the lead against Aylmer Gales scoring 1-01 within the first few minutes. Playing with a strong wind allowed the Abbey Rangers boys to pressure the kickout, this combined with some lovely attacking moves saw them draw clear at half time on a scoreline of 3-05 to 0-04.
The three first half goals were scored by Kevin Nolan, Adam Martin and Devan Abbey.
The second half was a much tougher affair with the Aylmer Gaels side putting considerable pressure on the Abbey Rangers kickout in the windy conditions. The boys found it hard to cope and had their lead reduced from 10 points at half time to 4 by the end of the third quarter.
The Abbey Rangers boys did get going again registering 3 points in the final quarter which was enough to secure the win.
The final score was Abbey Rangers 3-08 to Aylmer Gaels 1-09.
The full back line of Evan McCormac, Jack Fagan and Connor Clarke worked tirelessly all evening and made the difference by closing down and stopping multiple attacking moves from Aylmer Gaels and it was the driving runs from Devan Abbey down the middle that done most of the damage to the Aylmer Gaels defence.
Next up is the top of the table clash at home in 2 weeks time against Naas, both teams are tied on 4 wins from 4.
