Division 2 side Celbridge were the visitors to More O’Ferrall park on Sunday. There was an early throw in to allow for those wishing to head to the Kildare match after. If the inter county game was half as good as this it was a cracker!
As they had done last week the home side took complete command in the opening 20 minutes, goals from Johnny Grace and Eoint Sinnot together with points spread around the forwards and midfield gave us a commanding 2-3 to no score advantage at this stage.
However you don't just wake up one morning as a division 2 team - all teams at these higher levels have worked their socks off to get there and Celbridge turned on their undoubted class to keep them selves very much in the hunt at halftime trailing by only 2 points 2-5 to 1-6.
Our second half performance was built on Jack O‘ Rourkes excellent distribution from the ground and his hands, and a real teak tough half back line of Darragh Murphy, Jamie Delaney and Aaron Schofield expertly marshalled by Paddy Neary who decided simply “Though Shall not Pass and won countless turnovers to set our forwards on their way
A Second Johnny Grace goal (he says he meant it!!) together with the forwards cleverly working the ball to scorable positions meant our very good performance was rewarded with a good result winning on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-9.
Special mention of Daniel Geoghan who made his debut and showed what an exciting, intelligent footballer he is,
Our Next Match is away to Raheens in the final group game of the Manguard Minor League division 3 .
