U16 Semi Final Aylmer Gales 3-12 Abbey Rangers 3-11

An incredibly disappointing night saw Abbey Rangers defeated by a single point in the U16 semifinal against Aylmer Gales.

After managing go ahead by 7 points in the first half 2-08 to 0-07 Abbey Rangers looked to be cruising. The boys started the second half with a well rehearsed throw in and scored immediately to put 8 between the teams.

Aylmer Gales began their comeback shortly into the second half with constant runs up the wings closing the gap with each attack.

2 goals in quick succession at the end of the third quarter saw them come right back into the game with confidence growing all the time.

A third goal in the last 5 minutes saw them go ahead but Abbey Rangers responded immediately to draw the game level.

Aylmer Gales got the deciding point with 1 minute to go and although Abbey Rangers tried desperately, their last shot was saved off the line just before the final whistle.

Incredible efforts on the night from Kildangan’s Devan Abbey (0-08) and Kevin Nolan (2-00) as well as the huge defensive efforts from Ballykelly’s Jack Fagan and Oisin O’Reilly.

Best of luck to Aylmer Gales v Naas in the final next week.
