Monasterevin 2-8 Kildangan 2-8
Kildangan made the short trip to Monasterevin for a practice match in between their scheduled summer league fixtures tonight (Thursday). On a greasy night for football Monasterevin opened the scoring with a point as Kildangan took their time to settle into the game. Exchanges were evenly contested until Oisin McWey banged home a Kildangan goal about 10 minutes in. Monasterevin answered with a point to cut the gap to the minimum. Kildangan's slicker movement and passing ability began to show and Kildangan reeled off points Jack Fitzpatrick (2), Alice Mahon and Oisin McWey to stretch the Kildangan lead out to six points. Monasterevin hit back with two points before half-time to leave the half time score Monasterevin 0-4 Kildangan 1-5.
The second half was played in greasier conditions. Monasterevin hit back with an early goal but Casey McEvoy MacCullagh answered with a nice point. The sides swapped two points each with Josh O Rourke and Oisin McWey on the mark for Kildangan. Daragh Coughlan, Sophie Stynes, Jake Curran and Senan O'Tuama brought off some last ditch blocks as Monasterevin looked for goals to close the gap. Monastervin did get one point back but Oisin McWey buried a goal to put Kildangan ahead 2-8 to 1-7. It was at this point the refereeing went completely downhill with free after free going against Kildangan until Monasterevin eventually drew level with a goal and a point late on.
Kildangan can be happy with some of their nights work but improvements are there to be made also. We train again on Monday from 7-8pm.
