Athgarvan 0-4 Kildangan 6-10
Kildangan completed their Summer League programme with a 100% record with a fine win away to Athgarvan on Wednesday last. Despite being short a number of players Kildangan didn't let that hamper them and got off the mark early with a Tommy Donaher point in the opening minutes. Athgarvan answered with a point of their own shortly after. Kildangan began to get on top in the backline with Sam Worrell and Seamie Fitzpatrick snuffing out many Athgarvan attacks. Pressure began to tell with Jack Fitzpatrick hitting a 45 (now his specialty) and adding another point straight away. Josh O'Rourke got on the score sheet followed by a goal by Casey McEvoy MacCullagh opening his account. Casey followed up with a point after busy work from Ross Kenny and Sophie Murray in the forward line. Points by Josh O Rourke and Jack Fitzpatrick brought the first half scoring to a close with Kildangan leading by 1-7 to 0-1.
Athgarvan opened the second half by cutting the lead with a point. Jack Fitzpatrick cancelled out that score with a point. With superb reading of the game from Jake Curran and Niamh Gleeson around the middle, Kildangan were putting serious pressure on the opposition, Kildangan hit a purple patch scoring goals for fun. Firstly Jack Fitzpatrick scored followed by two from Casey McEvoy MacCullagh to make it his second hat-trick in consecutive games. Senan O'Tuama switched up from defence kicked a point which was answered by one from Athgarvan. Kildangan continued to dominate and were very solid from the back out with Aidan Casey keep his second consecutive clean sheet in goals and Oscar Law playing like he was never away on his return to action. Sean Casey and Josh O'Rourke popped up with goals for Kildangan before Senan O'Tuama finished off the Kildangan scoring with a point leaving the final score Athgarvan 0-4 Kildangan 6-10.
Although there will be tougher games ahead it was pleasing to see the team show good form as championship draws closer. Please see list of championship dates below.
