An away tie for the opening round of the 2025 Minor League had Abbey Rangers travel to the top of Kildare for an early throw in against Balyna in Johnstownbridge.
In the first quarter Abbey Rangers were the first to settle going into an early lead of 0-03 points to 0-01. Balyna fought back to trouble the Abbey Rangers defence on several occasions with strong runs to score 0-04 unanswered points. Both teams traded scores with Paddy Neary scoring a well worked goal to put Abbey Rangers ahead finishing off the first half just 1-06 to 0-08.
The second half continued at the same tempo with points continuing to be traded by both teams.
Goals came from both sides with Balyna scoring 2 and Abbey Rangers responding with one from Devan Abbey and a second from Paddy Neary to put Abbey Rangers back in front going into the final stages.
Balyna showed their quality and tagged on two long range points in the final minutes to level the game.
A cracking game ended in a draw with the boys looking forward to our first home game against Suncroft on Sunday 16th in Ballykelly.
