Kildangan U12s made the trip to Ellistown for Round 3 of the Championship in what turned out to be a tightly contested and spirited encounter.
Both teams were slow to settle, with early chances going astray at either end. Strong defensive performances were the order of the day, with Oscar, Aidan, and Eva Rose standing out for Kildangan in a resilient rear-guard action.
The game's first score came from Zach, putting Kildangan ahead before Ellistown responded with a point of their own. As conditions worsened, our young team showed real determination, and just before the break, three excellent points from Fionn, Tiernan, and Conor Hogan gave Kildangan a deserved lead at half-time.
Half-time Score: Kildangan 0-4, Ellistown 0-2
Ellistown came out strongly in the second half, registering a couple of points before a well-taken goal gave them the edge. Despite this setback, Kildangan never gave up. Jack, Sean, Sam, Emily, Ollie and Sarah Jane showed fantastic work rate and grit throughout the half, leading by example.
Further points from Zach and Cameron kept Kildangan in touch, and with little between the sides at the final whistle, it was a game that could have gone either way.
Full-time Score: Ellistown 1-6, Kildangan 0-6
The team will return to training on Monday as we await other results to see if we progress to a semi-final in the Cup or Shield Championship.
Well done to all the players for a great performance full of heart and teamwork!
