Round 4 of the minor league, saw Abbey Rangers finally register their first point on Monday evening with a well fought draw away to Milltown who were so far unbeaten in the league campaign.
The Abbey Rangers defence massively improved their game to make it very difficult for the Milltown attack. The whole back line team of Ben O’Connor, Tommy Donnelly, Calum Walsh, Kevin Nolan, Jack Fagan, Losha Ozernoy and Tomas Dunne who played at sweeper, all gave a brilliant team effort, lifting their intensity to a really strong level that we failed to produce in the previous rounds.
The game opened with a point for Milltown, with Abbey Rangers pulling a well taken point back within the first 10 minutes. The remainder of the first half was played at a high tempo with both teams matching each other with end to end attacks. Abbey Rangers had worked incredibly hard and had stayed right with Milltown until the final minute of the half when Milltown struck a well taken goal. The first half ended Milltown 1-05 to Abbey Rangers 0-05 with a brilliant display from Devan Abbey scoring all 5 for Abbey Rangers.
The second half started at the same tempo, Abbey Rangers were working incredibly hard in defence repelling Milltown attacks. Abbey Rangers were getting the upper hand and had closed the gap to one point when they were awarded a penalty through incredible hard work in attack from Oisin O’Reilly. Unfortunately, it was saved by the Milltown keeper, a hammer blow to the Abbey Rangers boys.
Points were traded again by both teams however with 5 minutes to go Abbey Rangers went ahead by one point when Tomas Dunne scored a wonderful goal coming on a support run from deep within his own half. Milltown tried hard and managed to level the game in the final minute. The game ended in a draw, however the boys were disappointed not to get the win as they had played an excellent game.
Others with excellent performances for Abbey Rangers were Tadhg Perry in goal, Alex Cullen in mid field and Evan Brett in corner forward.
Scorers for abbey Rangers were:
Devan Abbey 0-07
Evan Groves 0-01
