SFL Div.4
Round 3
28-03-26
Kildangan 2-20 Ardclough 1-2
Our seniors collected their first league points of the season in dry but breezy More O'Ferrall Park on Saturday last. Despite what the score line might suggest, it was a tough battle all through with no quarter being asked or given at any stage in what was a physical encounter.
Kildangan opened the game well with Cian Reilly and Sean Behan getting in on the scoring as we built an early lead of 0-5 to 0-1. Ardclough cut the lead with a pointed free but it was Kildangan who dominated the exchanges as the half progressed thanks in no small part a tight marking backline, with Alan Donaher mopping up anything that came his way. Gradually Kildangan stretched out the lead as the half progressed with points from Devon Abbey and Mark O'Donavan (2) to give us an 0-8 to 0-2 lead. The score line could have even greater as shots for goals from Ryan Moran and Mark O'Donavan flashed just wide of the posts. Kildangan kicked on for the remainder of the half with Mark O'Donavan kicking a two pointer free and the half finishing with a goal being punched to the net right on half time to leave Kildangan in a commanding lead at half-time of Kildangan 1-12 Ardclough 0-2.
Any hopes of an Ardclough comeback were put to rest in the opening minutes of the second half as Kildangan hit the net through Devon Abbey. We followed with a series of points from Cian Reilly, Aaron Schofield, Killian Reilly and Mark O'Donavan to build up a lead of 2-16 to 0-2. Ardclough replied with a goal to cut the gap but any hopes of a comeback were ended when they had a player red carded as the game threatened boil over at times. Kildangan pushed on and had a penalty saved after Bryan Adams had been hauled down in the square. This didn't deter Kildangan however, and further scores came from Cian Reilly and Luke McKenna after a one two with the returning Oisin Irvin. Sean Behan closed out the scoring with a classy point off the inside of the foot to leave the final score Kildangan 2-20 Ardclough 1-2.
Kildangan will be happy with the win but also no doubt happy that the stood up to some big hits in what was a physical encounter. The team continues to progress playing a fast moving style of play that's enjoyable to watch. Up next is a rearranged league fixture with Ballykelly this Thursday in Ballykelly, in what should be an exciting encounter.
