Abbey Rangers bow out of the League at the quarter final stage with a loss to Suncroft.

After a tough league campaign with 4 lost out 5 games and 1 draw, Abbey Rangers sat at the bottom of the table. This unfortunate position paired them against Suncroft in the quarter final who had proved the most difficult opponent in the group phase. However, with the Abbey rangers game greatly improved in the last two outings, hopes were high that a semi final spot could be achieved.

Abbey Rangers started the better and for the first time in the league opened the scoring with a great point taken from play. Points were traded in the first quarter with Abbey Rangers staying in front thanks to Devan Abbey who the Suncroft struggled to manage. The second quarter seen Suncroft build up a slight lead going ahead by 3 until Tomas Dunne cut through the Suncroft defence on a brilliant solo run that was finished with a goal. The sides went in at half time level with Abbey Rangers 1-04 to Suncroft 0-07.

The game was very much in the balance and could have gone either way in the second half, Abbey Rangers were playing a much-improved style of football that was producing good results.

The second half opened with a great attack from Abbey rangers coming with a bullet of a shot from Darragh Whyte coming back off the cross bar. The rebounding ball was quickly moved down the field resulting in a point from Suncroft. The teams traded points again with Darragh Whyte adding 2 in quick succession.

Abbey Rangers found themselves 3 points down as Suncroft began to pull away with some great points from distance. A great attack from Abbey Rangers resulted in a shot from Dan Geoghegan that for the second occasion came back off the cross bar.

Unfortunately, it was all Suncroft in the final quarter with several points scored without reply. Finally, the pressure Suncroft were putting on the Abbey Rangers defence resulted in a penalty in the last minute. This was confidently scored to end the game on a score line of Suncroft 1-16 to Abbey Rangers 1-06.
