After a disappointing championship qualifying game against Ballymore Eustace two weeks ago where the Abbey Rangers boys had been heavily defeated it was a proud uplifting performance to come back with a dominant win.
Ballymore opened the game strong and went 1-03 to 0-01 up in the first 10 minutes. Another heavy defeat was feared, but with 2 additional sweepers deployed in the Abbey Rangers defence the boys got to grips with their attach and at half time the score was Ballymore 1-05 to Abbey Rangers 0-05.
A very strong wind favoured the Abbey Rangers boys in the second half and it was Ballymore who found it difficult to hold off the constant attacks.
The game was tied 1-07 to 10 points when Ballymore scored a goal from a free kick. This boys didn’t panic and had 2 points scored within minutes.
From here the Abbey Rangers defence who were outstanding throughout the game dispossessed every Ballymore attack and added a further 2-05 in the forward line to close out the game.
A brilliant performance from all in the defensive line with Ben O’Connor, Conor Clarke, Kevin Nolan, Rian Clinch, Adam Martin, Jake O’Rourke, Dan Guighean and Tomas Dunne giving outstanding performances.
Up front great performances from Callum Walsh scoring 3 points, Alex Cullen 2 points, Devan Abbey 1-07 and Evan Brett 1 goal. Also working hard in the forwards were Conor Summers, Paddy Caulwell and Calum Dowling.
The midfield paring of Brody Dunne and Oisin O’Reilly were outstanding again with a stand out moment in the game being a point scored by Brody Dunne from a 45 kick.
With the win against Ballymore Eustace giving us a good start, two more rounds in the championship remain against Carbury and St Edwards before semifinal spots are decided.
