Abbey Rangers U16 were defeated for the second time in succession by St. Edwards the Rathcoffey, Straffan & Ardclough amalgamation to relegate them to third in the league table.
The game was started with an opening point to Abbey Rangers but the power and pace of St. Edward had them ahead by 1-03 to 0-01 in the first 10 minutes.
Abbey Rangers did respond to draw level at 1-03 a piece, including a good goal scored by Darragh Whyte however St. Edwards pushed on again with some well worked scores to lead at half time 2-05 to 1-06
The start of the second half saw St. Edwards register 2 goals early on which gave Abbey Rangers a lot of work to do to get back into the game.
A well worked goal was scored by Adam Martin however a second Abbey Rangers goal by Adam Martin was given by both umpires but overturned by the referee as he deemed it not over the line.
The game was played at high tempo with both teams showing their fitness right to the end.
Best of the Abbey Rangers on the night were Devan Abbey with his usual incredible work rate scoring 1-05, Kevin Nolan also with incredible work rate and Oisin O’Reilly and Jack Fagan in defence who worked tirelessly to hold off St Edwards attacks.
The final score of 4-14 to 3-09 leaves Abbey Rangers with a difficult gap to close if they are to overturn the result in a semi final.
