A new and exciting interclub initiative will get underway this Sunday in Nurney at 10.00am as four neighbouring clubs come together to provide additional playing and development opportunities for their underage players.
Following recent discussions among our underage mentors around how best to support the continued development of our U10, U11 and U12 age groups, a clear focus emerged on increasing game time and creating more varied football experiences for players. From those conversations came the idea of an Interclub Development Series, bringing together Kildangan, Nurney, Ballykelly and Rheban.
The series will run over four Sundays, beginning this weekend in Nurney, and will see players from all four clubs come together to form mixed interclub teams. Each session will involve both training and games, with an emphasis on enjoyment, learning and giving players the opportunity to play alongside and against new teammates.
This Sunday marks the starting point for what promises to be a really positive and worthwhile initiative, with all four clubs working together in a shared effort to support the development of their young players in a fun and inclusive environment.
This is very much a collective initiative, built on cooperation and a willingness across clubs to try something new for the benefit of the players. It is a great example of what can be achieved when clubs come together with a shared purpose.
A sincere thank you to Dan and Elaine Connell for bringing the idea forward, and to them along with Declan McGrath and their colleagues across the participating clubs for the work done in getting the series organised and ready to begin.
We look forward to seeing the players take to the field this Sunday and over the coming weeks, and it may well be the beginning of something that will continue to grow over the coming months and years
