Kildangan 1-26 Rheban 0-3

Our seniors remain in contention for a top four finish in Division 4 after a resounding win against neighbours Rheban on Saturday evening at sunny More O'Ferrall Park.

After a minutes silence to mark the passsing of Shay Murray, proceedings got underway with Kildangan playing with the breeze. Exchanges were fairly even in the opening minutes but it was Devan Abbey who opened the Kildangan account when he collected the ball and turned to put over a point. Ryan Moran added to the Kildangan tally when he knocked over a rebound after a good shot from Mark O'Donavan was parried by the Rheban keeper.  Rheban got off the mark themselves just after but Eanna Sherlock answered to extend Kildangans lead. Rheban kicked a 45 to leave the score 0-3 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. Kildangan were slow to get to grips with things at midfield and also passed up several goal opportunities in the early stages. Gradually Kildangan got a foothold in the game with Cormac Finnegan, Paddy Neary, Tom Browne and Alan Donaher prominent. The scores began to flow for Kildangan with Mark O'Donavan on song, kicking some lovely points from long range. Ryan Moran converted a free after a foul on himself, with Cole Grattan and Luke McKenna adding to the Kildangan lead. Points were added by Mark O Donavan, Cian Reilly and Ryan Moran to bring the first half scoring to a close with the half-time score Kildangan 0-11 Rheban 0-2.

Kildangan began the second half against the wind on the front foot with the newly introduced Robert McGrath and Bryan Adams having an immediate impact. Mark O Donavan kicked two early scores. Bryan Adams had a hand in further points for Eanna Sherlock and Cian Reilly (2).  Robert McGrath kicked two nice points off the left boot. Devan Abbey was presented with a goal chance soon after but wisely took the point to keep the scoreboard ticking. Kildangans superior fitness was plain to see with the returning Joey Walsh finding a second wind in the closing 15 minutes and controlling matters. A Rheban sending off and a Kildangan black card didn't break Kildangans tempo. Aaron Schofield, Conor Corrigan and Sean Behan continued to provide the Kildangan inside forwards with plenty of possession and Bryan Adams capped off an impressive appearance off the bench by crashing a shot to the Rheban net 10 minutes from time. Rheban replied with a point but Devan Abbey (3), Eanna Sherlock and Joey Walsh kicked further points for Kildangan. Robert McGrath proved he added a right boot to his locker while in London by kicking the final score of the day. This left the final score Kildangan 1-26 Rheban 0-3.

With 3 games in a week, Kildangan will have been delighted that their performance levels continue to be high. Good to see players continue to return to the panel with Joey Walsh, Conor Corrigan and Eoghan O'Fearghail getting game time. There are huge games coming this week and Kildangan know if we take anything from the games against Castlemitchell (Tuesday) and Monasterevin (Friday) we will finish top four, so lets get everyone out to support and push the team on.

We were blessed with not just one but two great photographers on the day- Michael Higgins Gallery is on our Flickr - https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjCSD2G
, while on our Facebook page you can view Donal Harrison’s. Thank you both.
